Reimbursement and Billing for Clinics
The American Medical Association (AMA) has assigned Category I CPT Codes for Mechanical Scalp Cooling, going into effect January 1, 2026. This update is a positive advancement for healthcare providers to standardize billing for this service.

Patient Preparation
If your patient is using Amma, you can support them by preparing them for scalp cooling, including what to expect and potential side effects.
Managing Expectations: Hair preservation is possible, but some thinning may still occur. Results vary depending on chemotherapy type and individual response.
Side Effects:Temporary scalp coldness or tingling, mild headaches, or discomfort during scalp cooling may occur.
Continued Treatment with Hair Loss: We recommend that patients continue scalp cooling even if they experience hair loss. Doing so helps protect hair follicles, promoting faster and fuller regrowth after treatment.
